2009/10 Annual Report

QUEENSTOWN ROTARY ANNS' ANNUAL REPORT 2009/2010

President: Linda van der Meer email: hgh@isat.co.zaSecretary: Peggy GreefActive Anns: 18It is a pleasure to present my Annual Report for the Queenstown Rotary Anns’ Club for the year 2009/2010. It has been a wonderful experience to work with the Anns who were always willing, helpful and enthusiastic! Thanks to all the convenors and to each and every Ann who, in which ever way, no matter how big or how small, contributed to make our year the huge success that it was. A special word of thanks must go to my secretary Peggy, who was an absolute a pillar of strength. Meetings: These were held every second Wednesday of each month at the home of a different Ann each time. The meetings were well attended and the Anns were always supportive and enthusiastic.Community Service projects:Star of the Month – Each month someone from the community was identified as having gone the extra mile to serve the public. What a worthwhile project this was. The person was presented with a cake and a certificate at his/her workplace. The employer who was informed before the time was present when his employee received the “award”. The photographs were published in our local newspaper. Cancer Patients in our communityWe donated a wig to a cancer patient in our area. It was so appreciated by the whole family. We decided to do this as an on-going project in our town. The Rowell Old Age Home (in the township): The 27 residents were very happy to receive refreshments and blue scarves made by some of the Anns in June 2009 when it was really very cold.At the end of June 2010 the Anns made big bags and filled them with necessities. The bags were very much appreciated by the residents.Madeira Old Age Home Birthday Cards: A card and a small gift was presented to the resident on his/her their birthday and was very much appreciated. The fellowship means so much the old people. We donated a sum of money towards the home at the end of June 2010.Toiletry Parcels for Aids Orphans: When it was brought to the attention of the Anns that the pupils, especially the teenagers of the Isibindi Children’s project were in need of toiletries such as deodorant, sanitary pads etc, the Anns jumped in, collected money and items from various businesses and soon many parcels were ready for the staff to collect. The parcels were given to the children at Christmas time.Christmas Hampers: Between 30 and 40 Christmas hampers were packed and handed to Mrs Stella Baillie who distributes them to the needy families in our town. Old Age Home Teas: The Anns hosted 2 teas during is time. One was for the John Vorster Old Age Home residents and the other was held at the Madeira Old Age Home. The residents enjoyed the tea, the entertainment and the fellowship with the Anns.Komani Hospital Mental Home patients were treated to a delicious meal given to them by the Anns.Fundraising:We were proud at the end of May when we could distribute our funds to various Charities in our town. The hard work through the year, made it all worthwhile.Follow the Star at Christmas : proved to be very popular as usual.A number of houses decorated with Christmas lights were identified. Tickets included a hamburger, ice cream, a competition form and the clues which enable the public to find the houses. Great fun was had by all (grandparents, parents, children, family and friends).Women’s Day of Indulgence: Thank you to all the Anns who had a hand in making this such a successful day. The public was made aware of what the Anns are capable of. The teamwork amongst the Anns was fantastic. It was a lot of hard work, but what a lovely morning it was.The hall was divided into two sections and beautifully decorated. The table gift for each ticketholder was a satin draw-string jewellery bad (made by the Anns_ filled with “goodies”. On the Agenda:A cooking demonstrationTable decor demonstration done by one of our AnnsA talk on Heritage RosesA Charta Ramano workshopGrow-aFiver: At the beginning of the year the Anns were given a R5 coin as a Grow-A-Fiver. At the end of the year they returned the R5 and any profit that they might have made out of something such as selling biscuits, catering etc that they did to add to the R5.Cake Tin: A cake tin filled with something interesting and the Anns pay R5 to take part in the draw.Men’ Meals: Light meals were prepared for the Tuesday Rotary Meetings –the profit was added to the Grow-a-Fiver by the Anns. The profit from the other meals at the clubhouse that the Anns catered for was also added to our funds. Morning Market: This annual event is always a great success. The Anns supplied the items for the stalls. Tea and scones are served. The tickets are sold very quickly and a good profit is made every year. The stalls are: Produce and Bottles Table, Plants Table, Cake Table, Bits and Bobs Table, Arts, Crafts and Needlework Table .The PRO Ann did an excellent job this year. If the public did not know what the Anns were up to and how good they are in what they do –they certainly do know now! CATERINGUnder the able leadership of our catering convenor, the catering for various meetings and functions (to mentiona few : A cocktail party for the local pharmacies, The DG’s visit, Youth Dinner, Dinner for the GSE Team, The Golf Day and so on) were all well-catered for and the Anns had many complements .The International Dinner was a great success – so much thought was put into the décor and the catering which was done by different groups of people (some from the community) was excellent. FELLOWSHIPThe Anns often joined the Rotarians when there was a fellowship/fun/speaker meeting. The Travelling Supper was a lot of fun and was enjoyed by all. There were many fellowship opportunities for the Anns and I know everyone enjoyed the time spent together.I wish the 2010/2011 Queenstown Rotary Ann’s President, Peggy Greef, everything of the best for her year of office and I want to assure her of the support from all the Anns.Linda van der Meer
