Traditionally, the décor at the club’s induction dinners reflects the occupation or interests of the incoming couple and, as Manie and Mariette are both quantity surveyors, she used bricks to hold outsized fabric roses, while quaint cardboard houses with cut-outs stood over the candles and let the light through the openings.Special guests included two of the couple’s daughter’s Marilise and Karlien (little Tinneke was tucked up in bed), district Governor’s assistant Judy Flanagan and Des from Stutterheim, Round Table Chairman Ryan Gaylard, Lukhanji Sunset president PJ Cloete, past president and former DG’s assistant Kruno Füzy and Goga, and Brazilian exchange student Thales Cabral.Between the courses of a delicious dinner, there were the customary toasts and the always-impressive candle lighting ceremony, competently handled by past president Gavin Schaefer. In his annual report outgoing president Marc Bradley thanked Rotarians and their Anns for the fellowship, help and co-operation he had enjoyed and especially the Anns president, Peggy Greeff, for her hard work and support throughout the year.In accepting the office and Charter for safe-keeping, Lemmer announced that the Rotary International theme for the year was “Reach within to embrace humanity” and said he hoped Rotarians would bear it in mind, participate and enjoy their membership, while adding value to the club and the community together with other service clubs in town. He said he would like the club to identify a specific project and raise funds for it.The board is Andy Jerrard (secretary), Johan de Beer (treasurer), Bradley (community service), Tim Brittain (house), Dave Stacey (vocational service), Barry Scarterfield (new generations), Johnny de Villiers (international service), Schaefer and Joe Makowem (membership).
