About our clubHistory of Rotary in Queenstown The first Rotary Club in Queenstown was launched largely through the enthusiasim of a dynamic businessman, Mr J. Terry-Lloyd. The great depression was three or four years away , Queenstown was prosperous and Terry-Lloyd had no problem in persuading 22 citizens , all of consequence in the town to join him in forming a club based on the motto, "Service above self." During the ten years of its existence, the club made its influence felt throughout the town and district. One of its projects was sending children who had never seen the sea on seaside holidays. It also planned the setting out of a sports field in Mlungisi, the prompotion of sport in the township and was before its time in trying to organise the integration of Black officials. It was also responsible for organising a Black Eisteddfod. Queenstown's first Rotary Club did not recover from the effects of the great depression of the 1930's. The number of Rotarians dropped so low that those remaining decided to call it a day.The Rotary Club of Queenstown, a new club, having its own charter and with no links with its predecessor, was formed in 1953. This second club has proved more durable than the first and recently celebrated its 55th anniversary. The club has been responsible for many service projects in Queenstown. To commemmorate 100 years of Rotary, a semi-detached cottage was built at Madeira Home for the aged. Over the years, the club has sponsored 3 Interact clubs and also Queenstowns third Rotary Club, Lukhanji Sunset. A major ongoing project of the club has been the distribution of wheelchairs and medical equipment to the needy in Queenstown and the district. The club has a thriving membership that averages about 30, and is supported in all its endeavours by the Rotary Anns who also undertake projects in their own right.Edric Russell President: Bruce van der Meer1st Vice & Club Service: Marc BradleyInternational Service: Fanie FourieSecretary: Manie LemmerTreasurer: Ernest LittlefordCommunity Service: Paul StruttHouse: Stan HollisVocational Service: Dave StaceyPast President Edric Russell BOARD MEMBERS COMMITTEES Club Service:Marc BradleyCommunity Service:Paul Strutt, Byron Pieters, Bill Griffin, Peter Uhlig,Johan de Beer, Tim Brittain, Johnny de Villiers,Quintin WentzelInternational Service:Fanie Fourie, Bevan GreeffYouth Service / Interact:Dave Stacey, Marc Bradley, Byron Pieters,John de VilliersVocational Service:Dave Stacey, Gavin Schaefer, Rod Ker-Fox, Manie LemmerHouse Committee:Stan Hollis, Bevan Greeff, Fanie Fourie, Ashie Scott Family of Rotary:Joe Mokawem, Pat Pillay, Bill GriffinFellowship Officer:Bill GriffinPhotographers:Johan de Beer, Fanie Fourie,Edric Russell, Paul StruttWeb Site and Club Twinning:Johan de BeerRegalia Officer:Ashie ScottRomex:P.R.O.:Chux Fourie and Project Convenors CLUB OFFICERS Ikamva Architects(045 - 8394777) Support our club and buy here at http://astore.amazon.com/rotcluofqueso-20 http://etrader.kalahari.net/referral.asp?linkid=4505&partnerid=10165District 9320 ROTARY CLUB OF QUEENSTOWNSouth Africa This website was created using MAGIX Website Maker You will need the current version of Adobe Flash Player to view it.
