P/A 2007/8 Annual ReportROTARY ANNS ANNUAL REPORT: 2007/2008 President: Cynthia Schaefer Treasurer: Mariette LemmerSecretary and President-elect: Polly Russell Fellowship: Peggy GreefMembership: 24 - Active Anns: 18Meetings: Second Wednesday of the month at 18:30. Venue: Homes of the Anns. For a club that enjoys incredible fellowship, the Rotary Anns are, nevertheless, very busy!Over the past twelve months, we have been involved in at least twenty projects - two of which were new and different and focussed around the theme for the year - "Rotary Shares".FAMILY OF ROTARYOur painless fund-raiser is the "cake tin" and brings in money for in-house caring. The "Anna" one-on-one project encouraged us to keep in touch with each other."Grow-a-fiver" gave the Anns the opportunity to raise funds whenever they catered for the Rotarians.ROTARY CARESThere are established projects which only require our occasional assistance.Knitted teddies for the child court room.Ilinge children's project.Knitted garments for babies and children for the rape and crisis centre and also a nearby mission.Party "goodies" for Sparrows. (A home for young children affected and infected by AIDS.)COMMUNITY CARINGWe serve "teas" for our senior citizens on three separate occasions, and this includes going to the homesfor the aged. Although the entertainment is limited to local available talent, invitations are always well received. On two occasions we catered for ninety folk.Christmas hampers are prepared and distributed by "welfare" contacts.Story books for the DG's Ann Lesotho literacy project.Woollies for winter. (Warm clothing for distribution.)Birthdays of the residents of Madeira Home for the Aged acknowledeged with a card and small gift. Each Ann takes on a month.Assisting orphaned girls as identified and advised by school educators. (New Project)CREATING ROTARY AWARENESSHosted a "Home Decor" seminar to stimulate interest for our local women.Family fun in December, including a rally type drive through the town, to locate and view the beautiful"Christmas" gardens. (New project)Morning Market on a Saturday morning in March with stalls and tea and scones. The Rotary Vocational Service committee organised a Breast Cancer awareness programme and the Anns assisted with decor and a delicious three-course meal. (Assistance was given for this programme to be repeated again at a church venue for a wider audience of women.)SPECIAL AWARDA certificate of merit was awarded to Colleen Eskridge for her selfless contribution to the community of Queenstown. From Texas, she joined the Anns during the time her husband, Bob, (new Rotarian) was involved in a training programme at our local municipality. One of the local libraries will never forget her.FUND RAISINGInspite of not being a fund-raising organization, this year we have raised nearly R25,000.00. This money is distributed proportionately amongst our local charities and also Rotary Foundation. Perhaps this year we could motivate a matching grant. The Rotarians have been very supportive of our projects. Their assistance and expertise is always available. They give us the distinct impression that they are very proud of us!There are ten Past Presidents in our Anns' club. Their experience and loyalty is an asset. All our younger Anns are working Moms. In them we see the potential and future of our club. We do well to nurture them and so pass on the ethos of our club. Not being the spouse of the chairman of the Rotary club, this year has been interestingly different as regards chairing the Anns. Gavin, my husband, has been the Anns' Liason and he has, to a great extent, relieved me of the "day to day" interaction of Rotary matters. Without these distractions, I have been able to give the Anns' projects my full interest and attention.Thank you to all the Anns for their support and willingness to serve throughout this year.I wish to single out my executive who have often carried more responsibility and given me meaningful advice.I thank President Dave for his support and eagerness to ensure that the Anns are well represented at most of othe Rotary meetings. We have worked well together. Finally, I thank the Anns for affording me the trust and privilege of leading them this past year. The sustainability of our projects in the quest for "Service avbove Self" is what makes it all worthwhile.Cynthia Schaefer Ikamva Architects(045 - 8394777) Support our club and buy here at http://astore.amazon.com/rotcluofqueso-20 http://etrader.kalahari.net/referral.asp?linkid=4505&partnerid=10165District 9320 ROTARY CLUB OF QUEENSTOWNSouth Africa This website was created using MAGIX Website Maker You will need the current version of Adobe Flash Player to view it.
