Prostate Cancer Awareness Dinner 20 October '09

Dr T.E. Kriek was our guest speaker on Tuesday, 22 October 2009. He is no stranger to our club, having recently received a Rotary Service Award as well as being our Guest Speaker on a number of occasions. Dr Kriek spoke to us about prostate cancer. He pointed out the importance of regular annual check-ups, especially for those men in their 40s. The advantage would be early detection of disease, and, therefore, make successful treatment possible.Dr Kriek passed around, for our inspection, a model of the prostate gland in various stages of deterioration. He also pointed out the various treatments available, as well as their success rates. Dr Kriek, in true form, treated the meeting to some amusing anecdotes relating to the different methods of examination! A most enlightening evening, well organised by Rtn. Dave Stacey.
