Induction of President Marc Bradley 25 June '10

HAPPY INDUCTIONRotarians, Anns, guests and family members gathered at the Rotary Club last Friday evening for the induction of Marc Bradley as the new president of the Queenstown Rotary Club.Thelma Pieters had again worked her magic in the décor, from the flickering candles lighting the pathway to the door, to the arrangements of fruit and flowers on the tables, lit by silver candelabra. Outgoing presidential couple Bruce and Linda van der Meer were on hand to welcome guests with a warming glass of sherry and once everyone was seated MC Dave Stacey was able to get proceedings underway.Between courses of a delicious meal, Bruce gave his annual report in which he mentioned the various projects the club had held throughout the year and thanked those responsible for organizing them. However, he said, the fellowship was of more importance than the fund-raising and it had been confirmed that the more one put into an organization such as this, the more one got out.He handed out awards, some serious and others more light-hearted, and thanked the Anns, whom he said “had cooked and cleaned and washed”.He thanked Linda for her unstinting support and wished Stan and Joan Hollis well on their retirement from Rotary after many years of whole-hearted involvement, expressing disappointment in the fact that he had never managed to convince Stan to have a glass of water with him.He inducted Marc and wished him well in his year of office. In response Marc said it would be quite a ride and he hoped it would be fun, without ever forgetting the serious raison d’etre of the organization, which was to help others and promote world peace. He said it was his goal for members of the club to get to know one another better through fun-filled events which would involve the whole club and concluded by thanking Peggy Greeff for accepting the presidency of the Anns, adding that she was a first cousin of his late mother, Sheila, who would have been so happy to see the two of them leading the club together. The board for the ensuing year is Manie Lemmer (vice president), Johnny de Villiers (secretary), Johan de Beer (treasurer), Gavin Schaefer (international), Paul Strutt (community service), Bevan Greeff (house), Dave Stacey (vocational service) and Barry Scarterfield (youth service).Special guests included Marc’s children, Sam (with Retief), Jo and Nicholas, Assistant Governor Kruno Fűzy and Goga and Adi and Di Peltenburg, representing Round Table in Queenstown.Queenstown Rep - 2 July 2010
